This Saturday we catered a wonderful winter wedding at the quirky East Anglian Railway Museum.
Danielle and Terry chose this unusual venue to have their wedding reception and evening party.
On arrival the guests were greeted with steaming glasses of mulled wine and a selection of canapés which they enjoyed on an old train carriage pulled up on tracks outside the museum.
As the crisp and clear day drew in, the party moved into the museum for their sit down meal. They had King prawn, apple and celery margarita followed by a hearty sausage and mash, and then apple tarte tatin for dessert. We served three types of local sausage to give the dish a twist.
We also catered for all of the special diets, producing vegetarian sausage and mash, and even a gluten free meal of sausage and mash.
Danielle had pulled out all of the stops for a perfect vintage wedding, wearing a gorgeous lace wedding dress, and laying silk scarves, pearls and quirky vases on all of the tables.
In the evening they had a free bar for their guests, with four of Terry’s favourite real ales and a wide selection of drinks.
This Essex wedding venue really was a unique experience for the guests, with a train inside the museum which people could spill into.
As the evening got into full swing with a live band, we took around trays of fish and chips, served in rustic tins with personalised newspaper. This winter warmer went down well with the evening guests, and we saw plenty of people taking the newspaper home with them!
We brought our own catering tent and all the equipment needed to cook this 3 course wedding breakfast and evening food as there were no cooking facilities on site, but we love a good challenge, and with such a quirky venue, we didn’t mind at all!
We would like to say a huge congratulations to Danielle and Terry, and wish you much happiness in married life.
If you are looking for wedding catering, but are unsure of adequate facilities at your venue, give Bigday a call or email as we have all of our own cooking equipment and tent that we can bring to the venue if needed.
