A Bigday for Charlotte and Delme!

On the 24th August, in the little village of Radwinter on the outskirts of Saffron Walden, was the wedding reception of Charlotte and Delme.

As guests arrived, they were welcomed by Bigday Catering with a glass of bubbly, Pimms in jam jars, or a sparkling elderflower cordial, and a wide selection of canapés.

Originally the plan was to have the reception outside, with haystacks and a String Quartet playing in the background. Plan B was put in place and Bigday Catering brought the reception inside the marquee equipped with the String Quartet, hay stacks, drinks and happy guests.
There was also a very cute tea and coffee station set up inside with little jam scones with clotted cream on offer too.

Everyone was wowed by the how decorative the inside of the marquee looked, it was decked out very vintage like with handmade bunting hanging all over the roof of the marquee, lovely flowers in wellington boots, and even a hat hanger! The room looked absolutely stunning, see the pictures below!

Onto the main event…

Hog Roasts platters were served to the eagerly awaited guests, complete with side dishes of hot new potatoes, Mediterrean vegetables, coleslaw and salads. Each platter had lots of meat, perfect crackling and stuffing. Yummy! All served with our homemade Apple Sauce.

For desserts, Bigday Catering served our signature dish of a trio of desserts, which included mango cheesecake, lemon posset, and Eton Mess. Delicious!

Evening approached and the party really started! With a live band getting everyone on their feet dancing and singing, the cocktails were flying from the bar which was served in dispensers. (See pictures below!) Guests could also get ‘dancing choos’ from the bar, which were provided by Charlotte and Delme. We thought this was a great idea as people could slip out of their heels and new shoes and really get down to some tunes all night long!

We wish Charlotte and Delme all the happiness in their future together and congratulate them once again. We thoroughly enjoyed catering for their wedding and being part of their special day!

Beautiful Ingatestone Hall Wedding

The 3rd August, in the sunny town of Ingatestone, was the wedding of Andrew and Hayley, set in the grand grounds of Ingatestone hall; it was the perfect setting for a perfect wedding!
The marquee was dressed up in a cute modern vintage way, with a colour theme of yellow. Each table was named after a classic novel with a stack of old looking books in the middle. See the pictures below to get a real feel of what the theme was like!
As the clock struck 3:30, the bride and groom arrived in a classic vintage car, Bigday greeted the happy couple with a glass of bubbles each. They arrived early to take a sneak peak in the marquee to see the finished product and have a few pictures taken before the guests arrived.
100 guests started spilling in through the grand entrance and up the pebble stone path to be greeted by Bigday with bubbles, bottled beer or a grape sparkling juice drink – all very refreshing drinks that went down well with the guests in the summer sun.
Bigday then came out with the canapé selection which included
- Mini Fish and Chips
- Prawn and Chorizo Skewers
- Brie and Mango Chutney Parcels
- Halloumi with Red Onion Jam and Cherry Tomatoes
The guests absolutely loved the selection of canapés and complimented us on not only how they tasted but how they were presented too!
Guests filed into the marquee after congratulating the newlyweds, and they then had to find the key to their seat which made finding your seat a bit more fun!
Everyone eagerly awaited the main course to come out which was Hog Roast sharing platters – fantastic idea! Each table got 2 platters of pork from the hog roast with perfect crispy crackling and stuffing, accompanied with a fresh mixed salad, Mediterrean vegetables, Homemade Coleslaw, Roasted New Potatoes, Apple Sauce and a basket of bread rolls.
Vegetarians had a Roasted Pepper stuffed with Mediterrean vegetables and goats cheese.
Onto desserts now, which was a trio; this consisted of a yellow macaroon, profiterole bianco and a vanilla panna cotte with a raspberry coulis on top. A trio is great if you can’t decide on just one dessert!
As desserts were served, Bigday also served tea and coffee and poured the toast drinks in preparation for the speeches.

After the speeches the party began as the free bar opened which Bigday supplied and staffed to serve the couples drinks. Including the couple’s cocktails of a Cosmopolitan and Jamaretto!
With the dance floor conveniently located next to the bar, all the guests danced the night away to the DJ and Bigday had a little sing a long too!
We had a fantastic time catering for Hayley and Andrews wedding and wish them all the best in their future together.

Charlotte and Phil’s Big Day!

On the 27th July, it was the wedding of Charlotte and Phil. Forecasted rain, but luckily in the lovely town of Purleigh, the sun was shining!

The happy couple were scheduled to arrive in a helicopter, but due to storms forecasted, it had to be cancelled, which was such a shame!

200 guests arrived onto the grounds to be welcomed by a live singer and tea party themed canapés which included mini cakes, scones, Vol Au Vents (the brides favourite food) and typically British sandwiches. We served the canapés on beautiful vintage trays and cake stands, amongst other quirky platters that we have accumulated over the years.

When the Bride and Groom arrived, everyone couldn’t help but stare at how gorgeous the bride looked, her dress was pure white with diamonds dotted all over the bodice, it was true princess dress – even Cinderella would be jealous! Not forgetting the Groom of course, who looked very handsome in his tux!

At 5, everyone was called for dinner and entered the beautifully decorated room in which they would enjoy their Wedding Breakfast, tastefully decorated in all white with gorgeous centre pieces, see pictures below!

Guests sat down to enjoy a traditional roast dinner. The meats were slices of chicken, gammon and beef all served with vegetables, roast potatoes and one big Yorkshire pudding, all topped off with lots of gravy!

Onto dessert which was a trio of homemade chocolate brownie, mango and coconut cheesecake and profiterole bianco.

Everyone enjoyed their meals and couldn’t stop complimenting on how much they enjoyed it and that the Yorkshire pudding was the best they’d ever had – which pleased our chef, a true Yorkshireman!

After the meal, we poured the toast drinks and the speeches began. Once all finished it was down to the nightclub room complete with a disco/dance floor and bar!

Evening guests arrived – almost 500 – To witness the first dance and cutting of the huge cake (see picture below), which looked delicious.

We got busy setting out the impressive buffet which the chefs had prepared for the evening guests. This consisted of a very tasty selection -
- Hot food station of chicken curry and chilli con carne with all the accompaniments
- Cold food station of meats, pasta, rice dishes, sandwiches, salads and a dressed salmon
- Cheese board and crackers
- ‘Party’ food station of mini cupcakes, popcorn, chocolate rolls and marshmallows
- Gateau and Wedding cake station
- Chocolate Fountain
- Sweet Cart

Lots of food for lots of hungry people! It all went down a treat and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

We had a great time catering for Charlotte and Phil’s wedding and we wish them all the happiness in their future together.

Wedding in the Sun!

This weekend Bigday Catering were doing a lovely wedding in Hertfordshire! What a beautiful day for a wedding it was too, with the sun staying out all day, not a cloud in site! (We love this weather here at Bigday!)

The bride looked gorgeous in a simple but very elegant dress – perfect for the summer heat! The ceremony took place on site and it was wonderful to see the couple exchange vows and become happily married!

Reception drinks of Pimms, Prosecco and Orange Juice was taken round to all guests which went down a treat and then canapés were taken round which consisted of fresh tiger prawns with a sweet chilli dip, mini homemade burgers, cream cheese and smoked salmon bilinis and mini brie and cranberry tartlet, Delicious!

After all the photos had been taken, which I’m sure looked great, the guests all sat down for the wedding breakfast. 3 Course meal of…

• Caramelised onion, leak and goats cheese tartlet with mixed leafs and red pepper coulis for starter.

• Braised lamb shank with herbed mash and mint jus for mains and for the vegetarians wild mushroom risotto (we cater to everyone’s dietary needs)

• Sticky toffee pudding served with rum and raisin ice cream with a warm toffee sauce to finish the meal off!

Once all the guests had finished the meal, everyone sat back with a chilled glass of prosecco and listened to the speeches. Wonderful!

The first dance took place and then the cutting of the cake, once all the evening guests had arrived, the evening buffet could go out! A lovely selection of sandwiches, BBQ ribs, scampi, vegetable spring rolls, vegetable samosas and chicken satay.

It was a wonderful day for the couple and we wish them all best in their future together! Congratulations!

Ali and Ali – Summer Wedding!

Going back in time now, to the 18th May 2013, the day that Ali and Ali got married. It was a fantastic day for it too, lovely and sunny.

The wedding reception happened at a local venue called Burloes Hall, located in a remote location in Royston, perfect venue for a perfect wedding!

All the guests arrived at 4pm for a drinks reception held in the gardens of Burloes Hall, which had brilliant views of the countryside! For the drinks reception Ali and Ali had Pimms with lemonade (refreshing!), chilled Prosecco and Elderflower. A selection of canapés were also being bought round – a few of the chefs favourites which you can see in our menus!

After the guests had had photos taken, everyone made their way into the marquee to await their lovely meal which was…

Sharing platters of pate for starters, accompanied by a selection of homemade chutneys and breads, then for mains, Hog Roast sharing platters with all the trimmings, including stuffing, crackling, salads, and apple sauce and stuffing balls! (You can find out more about our platters under the Hog Roast tab) And finally for dessert everyone tucked into Eton Mess served in martini glasses – lovely way to end a lovely meal!

After the meal, prosecco was poured for the speeches and coffee offered around to sip whilst speeches commenced!

Time for the cutting of the cheese cake! Not a cheese cake as you would picture though, oh no, and actual wedding styled cake made from cheese! (See pictures below!) This was cut, and then served as part of the evening buffet which also included pickles, ham hock, crackers and a selection of breads.

Bigday also offered service of their drinks behind a free bar, which went all night next to the dance floor so we could dance along as well!

We wish Ali and Ali a very happy time together and all the best in the future! We had so much fun catering at your wedding, thank you again for choosing us!

Kingshott School Summer Ball 2013

On the scorcher of a day that was Saturday 6th July, Bigday were please to be catering for Kingshott School Year 8s Summer Ball! Hosted in a HUGE marquee on the schools field, full with 24 tables to seat 300 hungry mouths!

The theme was masquerade and everyone was turning up in fantastic masks, and formal attire, getting their photos taken in the glorious sunshine outside. Accompanied by a glass of rose prosecco, which was nice and refreshing in the heat! Parents and teachers alike all bought raffle tickets (including us!) from the year 8s in order to raise money for charity.

Once raffle tickets were bought and photos taken, everyone gathered inside the marquee to sit down for their two course meal, which included chicken stuffed with spinach and mozzarella served with Dauphonoise potatoes and a red pepper sauce, and the vegetarian option was stuffed pepper which looked and tasted delicious!, and for dessert, homemade Apple Tarte Tartin served warm with vanilla ice cream and a strawberry on top.

All this went down a treat, and with everyone fed the auction could begin! With prizes that included a holiday cottage retreat, free round of golf, and a Boris Becker signed tennis racket!

We do not know how much the pupils, parents and teachers raised, but by how much the raffle prizes were going for, we know they raised a fantastic amount!

Auction over, raffle draw over, time for the year 8s and parents to take to the dance floor!

Bigday had our mobile bar there, which opened at 7pm and shut at 2am, with a wide selection of drinks which was conveniently placed next to the dance floor so we could have a little dance behind the bar too and join in with the celebrations!

After the year 8s went home for a well deserved rest, as they all worked so hard selling raffle tickets! The remaining parents and teachers carried on the night, dancing and singing to classic tunes and new hit music right through until 2am when last orders at the bar came in and the final song was being played.

Bigday thoroughly enjoyed catering for a school ball, and we congratulate the year 8s and hope them well in the future at their new schools.

Bigday have been very busy in the recent months! Lots of fantastic weddings, with even more yummy food, such as rump of lamb, BBQ sharing platters (great fun!), and fruit sharing platters for dessert even a jambalaya which was delicious and very different for a wedding! Topped off with a refreshing trio of desserts including a light lemon posset, deliciously creamy and fresh Eton Mess and a cheeky bit of chocolate brownie!
All the events so far have been great and we would like to thank them for choosing us, we know the events throughout the summer period will be just as good!

Bigday are Back!

Bigday are back! Sorry it has been so long since our last blog, but due to a busy busy busy season, we haven’t had chance to write a new blog! Now we are back and busier than ever with new tastings and enquiries and we are looking busy for the summer so book up now because dates are going fast!

A lot has changed since our last blog update! We have new venues to recommend and some great new packages in our menu! We have also had a little update to our website!

First things first, we are happy to announce we have our first wedding coming up! On Saturday 16th of March, we have the fabulous wedding of Cathy and Craig! You’ll hear all about it in the week to come!

Now onto excellent new venues we have to recommend! Essendon Country Club, Valentines Mansion, Anstey Hall, Cambridge Union Society, Burloes Hall and Church Farm. We have a great partnership with all of these great venues and would highly recommend any of them to our brides and grooms. There is more information on these venues on our Venues and Marques page located under the Info tab.

Onto our great new packages now, we are offering a vintage package, which include a very British theme with scones, little sandwiches, and bite size cupcakes, anything you think of British and vintage we have it, right down to the vintage crockery! We also offer Bigdays Little Extras, which include a sweet stall, or a lovely hot chocolate to send the guests home with, for more information on these great new packages check them out under the Info page.

Bigday have also started doing quite a few corporate events, from a sit down meal to a canapé reception for 50 people. It is something we really enjoy doing so if you have a corporate event that needs catering for do not hesitate to contact us! We would be happy to help!

Christmas Party – Book Now!

It’s getting to that time of the year again, leaves are falling off the trees, and you can see your breath in the autumn air, not long now until you are waking up 10 minutes earlier to scrape the frost off your windscreen! This means one thing; Christmas will soon be upon us!

We all know what that means, the planning of the annual works Christmas party! We can cater the typical office get together, you know the type I mean, tinsel draped here and there, each desk with a miniature Christmas tree upon it, and of course, the dreaded mistletoe in the corner of the room where the hopeful romantic will linger under. Not forgetting that drunken dance with your boss!

We can even cater for a Christmas corporate event, where the whole company will get together, and dine in for a 3 course meal, reception drinks, and our stylish mobile bar. Or we can even do a family get together, in the comfort of your own home, where your Grandad will be asleep in the chair in the corner of the room with the paper cracker hat still on his head.

Here at Bigday, we love Christmas, from the street decorations, to the grand Christmas trees. There is nothing better than a hot chocolate and a good classic Christmas film – our favorites are Home Alone and Love Actually!

Summer 2012 – Thank you!

It has been a busy few months to say the least, but nothing is too much for us at Bigday Catering! Our motivated, professional and friendly team managed the busiest summer of events we have ever had! Would just like to take this time to thank them for all their hard work and we could not have done it with out you all! Thank you!

From weddings, to birthdays to small events, to the biggest corporate events, we have done it all this summer, and the bookings keep on coming! December is looking pretty busy with Christmas parties! (Get yours booked in now!) However we love every event we do, and are very much looking forward to it.

The menus have been endless and very tasty, from pork belly, lamb, bbq platters, picnic platters, hog roasts, duck and many more; we have done the lot this summer! Each wedding menu different to the next, however each one is just as tasty as the others!
